From Old Norse Víðarr, possibly from víðr “wide” and herr “army, warrior,” Vidar is a figure in Norse mythology and the son of Odin and Grid. At Ragnarök, the end of the world, he is said to avenge his father’s death by killing the wolf Fenrir.
