Yahweh is a name of the Hebrew God, represented in Hebrew by the Tetragrammaton יהוה (Yod Heh Vav Heh) and transliterated into Roman script as Y H W H. Because speaking the divine name was considered blasphemous, it was written but not pronounced, and its original pronunciation was eventually lost. The name may derive from the Hebrew root הָוָה (hawa), meaning “to be, to exist, to become.”
