Russian, Ukrainian and Belarusian form of George. The name was borne by Yuriy Dolgorukiy, a 12th-century grand prince of Kyiv, and by the Soviet cosmonaut Yuriy, or Yuri, Gagarin (1934–1968), the first man to travel to space.
