Sophia comes directly from Greek sophia, meaning “wisdom.” The name gained Christian significance through divine wisdom and saints named Sophia and has been borne by European royalty. Hungarian zs represents a sound like the s in “measure,” and the acute accent marks vowel length. Notable bearers include Hungarian artistic gymnast Zsófia Kovács and Hungarian handball player Zsófia Tomori.
