Meaning and history
Abd Allah is an Arabic masculine name written عبد الله and meaning “servant of God,” from ʿabd, “servant,” and Allah, “God.” Abdullah and Abdallah are common joined transliterations of the same name. It has deep Islamic significance: the Prophet Muhammad’s father was named Abd Allah ibn Abd al-Muttalib, and several early Muslims and rulers bore it. Notable modern bearers include King Abdullah II of Jordan and Saudi Arabia’s late King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
