Bella is a short form of Isabella and other names ending in bella, and it is also associated with the Italian word bella, meaning “beautiful.” The name was used by American author Stephenie Meyer for the main character in her popular Twilight series of novels, first published in 2005 and later adapted into films beginning in 2008.
