Meaning and history
A medieval form of Benedict, Bennett was the more common spelling in England until the 18th century. Its modern use is probably also influenced by the common surname Bennett, which itself derives from the medieval name.
Bennett has made a dramatic comeback. After first appearing in the US records in 1880, it fell to #998 by 1978, before climbing to #40 in 2025. That year also produced its highest recorded birth count, at 6,268.
