Callisto is the Latin form of Greek Kallisto, meaning “most beautiful.” In Greek mythology Callisto was a companion of Artemis who was transformed into a bear and later associated with the constellation Ursa Major. The name was also given to one of Jupiter’s largest moons, discovered by Galileo in 1610.
