Meaning and history
Kallisto is derived from Greek κάλλιστος (kallistos), meaning “most beautiful,” from καλός (kalos), “beautiful.” In Greek mythology, Kallisto was a nymph loved by Zeus who was transformed into a she-bear by Hera and later became the constellation of the Great Bear. It was also an ancient Greek personal name.
