Meaning and history

From Greek Καλυψώ (Kalypso), probably meaning “she that conceals” and derived from καλύπτω (kalypto), “to cover, to conceal,” this name in Greek mythology belonged to the nymph who fell in love with Odysseus after his shipwreck on Ogygia. When he refused to remain with her, she kept him there for seven years until Zeus ordered his release.
