Meaning and history
Cherette is a rare modern feminine name, probably influenced by French chérie, meaning “dear” or “beloved,” and English names such as Cher and Sherrie. The suffix -ette resembles a French diminutive ending, but there is little evidence that Cherette is a traditional French formation. Its origin may therefore vary between families, and claims of an ancient or universal meaning are unreliable. Prominent real-life bearers using the exact spelling are limited, so a conservative modern-English explanation is most appropriate.
