Dana has several independent uses. In Hebrew and several European languages it is a feminine form of Dan or Daniel, names connected with the meaning "God is my judge," while in English it also developed as a unisex name from a surname and other traditions. Notable bearers include comedian Dana Carvey, singer Dana International and fictional FBI agent Dana Scully from The X-Files.
