Meaning and history
Dara has several independent origins. In Irish it can be a form of Dáire, associated with “fruitful” or “fertile,” while in Persian it means “wealthy” and is related to Darius; it is also used in Khmer and Hebrew contexts. Notable bearers include Irish musician Dara Ó Briain and Cambodian singer Dara Chom Chan.
Dara moved from #895 to #954 for girls between 1992 and 1993. Its highest annual birth count came in 1981, with 453 births.
