Dimitra

Dimitra is the modern Greek form of Demeter. Demeter is the ancient Greek goddess of agriculture, grain, and fertility and the mother of Persephone. Her name has traditionally been interpreted as “earth mother,” but the first element’s precise linguistic origin remains debated. The myth of Demeter and Persephone explained the seasonal cycle and shaped the Eleusinian Mysteries. Notable bearers include Greek singer Dimitra Galani and Greek hurdler Dimitra Gnafaki.
