Meaning and history

Evander is the Latinized form of the Greek name Euandros, meaning "good man." In Roman mythology, Evander is an Arcadian hero who settles in Italy and founds Pallantium on the future site of Rome, where he introduces Greek customs and aids Aeneas. The same spelling can also represent an unrelated Scottish form of Iomhar. A celebrated modern bearer is heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield.
