Meaning and history

Felicitas is a Latin feminine name meaning “good fortune,” “luck,” or “happiness.” In Roman religion, Felicitas personified good fortune and success. The name also has major Christian significance through Saint Felicitas, an enslaved woman martyred with Saint Perpetua and their companions at Carthage in the third century. Their prison narrative became an important early Christian text. Notable modern bearers include German actor Felicitas Woll and German journalist and author Felicitas von Lovenberg.
