Garnette is a feminine spelling variant of Garnet. Garnet is an English gemstone name derived through Old French from Latin granatum, “seeded,” because the red crystals were compared with pomegranate seeds. It also developed as a surname and may enter given-name use through family naming rather than the gemstone. A notable bearer is Jamaican-American essayist and cultural commentator Garnette Cadogan. The final -ette is an elaboration and does not create a different mineral meaning.
