Meaning and history
Gaspar is a Spanish, Portuguese, and Hungarian form of Jasper. The name’s origin is uncertain, though it is often traced to an Old Persian word interpreted as “treasurer.” In later Christian tradition, Caspar became one of the conventional names assigned to the Magi who visited the infant Jesus, although the Gospel itself does not name them. Notable bearers include Argentine-French filmmaker Gaspar Noé and Portuguese footballer Gaspar Panadero.
