Meaning and history
Hanna is a widely used form of Hannah, from a Hebrew name meaning "grace" or "favour." In the Old Testament, Hannah prays for a child and becomes the mother of the prophet Samuel. The spelling is common across northern, central and eastern Europe. Notable bearers include German actress Hanna Schygulla and Swedish politician Hanna Wigh.
