Jessamyn is an English feminine name derived from jessamine, an older English form of jasmine. Jasmine entered European languages from Persian yāsamin, the name of the fragrant flowering plant. The spelling may also be influenced by Jessica, but its floral origin is the clearest established source. Notable bearers include American novelist Jessamyn West and American yoga teacher and author Jessamyn Stanley. The flower has long been valued in perfumery and gardens across Asia and the Mediterranean.
