Leonardo is the Italian, Spanish and Portuguese form of Leonard. Famous bearers include Renaissance artist and scientist Leonardo da Vinci (1452–1519), painter of the Mona Lisa and designer of inventions including flying machines; 13th-century mathematician Leonardo Fibonacci; and American actor Leonardo DiCaprio (1974–).
Leonardo has risen sharply in the modern US rankings, moving from #253 in 2000 to #91 in 2025. It now stands at #91 for boys. Its highest annual birth count came in 2019, with 4,427 births.
