Meaning and history
Lorene is an English feminine variant of Lorraine or an elaboration of Loren. Lorraine began as the name of a region in northeastern France, ultimately derived from the medieval kingdom of Lotharingia, “realm of Lothair.” Loren may instead belong to the Laurence family, from the Roman name Laurentius, “from Laurentum.” The spelling can therefore reflect more than one route. Notable bearers include American singer Lorene Mann and American politician Lorene T. Coates.
