Meaning and history
Maritza is an elaborated form of Maria used especially in Latin America. Its ending may have been influenced by the name of the Itza people of Central America, as in Chichen Itza in Mexico, and it also closely resembles the name of the Maritsa River in southeastern Europe.
Maritza rose from #872 to #842 for girls between 2011 and 2012. Its highest annual birth count came in 2005, with 780 births.
