Meaning and history
Max is a short form of Maximilian or Maxim, and in English it can also be a diminutive of Maxwell; it also coincides with the informal word max, short for maximum. Notable bearers include the German intellectual Max Weber (1864–1920) and the physicist Max Planck (1858–1947), and it is also the name of the title character in the Mad Max film series, which began in 1979.
