Rayna has more than one origin. In Bulgarian and related Slavic use, Rayna or Raina is associated with a name element meaning “queen,” influenced by Latin regina through regional forms. In modern English it may instead be a spelling variant of Raina, Reina, or Rayne, whose histories differ. It should not be given a single universal translation without cultural context. Notable bearers include Bulgarian revolutionary and teacher Rayna Knyaginya, born Rayna Popgeorgieva, and American singer-songwriter Rayna Gellert.
