Meaning and history
Rosa is used across many European languages and is generally derived from the Latin word rosa, meaning "rose," although some early instances may have been influenced by an unrelated Germanic name. It was borne by Saint Rosa of Viterbo in the thirteenth century and entered regular English use in the nineteenth century. Famous bearers include civil-rights activist Rosa Parks and revolutionary thinker Rosa Luxemburg.
