Thaddeus is the traditional English form of an Aramaic name borne by one of Jesus’s apostles, but its original meaning is uncertain; proposed connections with words for “heart” or “breast” are debated. As a nickname for Thomas, it instead belongs to a name meaning “twin” in Aramaic. Notable bearers include American politician Tad Cochran and American film director and animator Tad Stones.
