Meaning and history
Tera has several possible modern uses. In English it is often a spelling variant of Tara, whose Irish origin refers to the Hill of Tara, an important ceremonial and royal site, or of Terra, the Latin word for “earth.” It can also be a short form created within families. Because these routes are unrelated, Tera has no single fixed meaning. Notable bearers include American actor Tera Patrick and American long-distance runner Tera Moody.
Tera moved from #829 to #892 for girls between 1989 and 1990. Its highest annual birth count came in 1984, with 416 births.
