Toni is a short form of Antonia and, less often, Antonio, making it a unisex name. Both derive from the Roman family name Antonius, whose original meaning is unknown. The spelling became established independently in the twentieth century. Notable bearers include Nobel Prize-winning author Toni Morrison, singer Toni Braxton and footballer Toni Kroos.
