Aleksandrina

Aleksandrina is a Bulgarian, Macedonian, and other Slavic feminine form of Alexander. It derives from Greek Alexandros, combining alexein, “to defend,” with anēr, “man,” and is traditionally interpreted as “defender of men.” The extended feminine ending distinguishes it from Aleksandra while preserving the same origin. Notable bearers include Bulgarian tennis player Aleksandrina Naydenova and Bulgarian operatic soprano Alexandrina Pendatchanska, whose first name is also transliterated Aleksandrina.
