Joetta is a modern English feminine name formed from Jo or Joe with the suffix -etta. Jo commonly shortens Josephine or Joanna: Josephine ultimately means “God will add,” while Joanna means “Yahweh is gracious.” The intended root therefore depends on family tradition, and Joetta has no single combined ancient meaning. A notable bearer is American middle-distance runner Joetta Clark Diggs, a four-time Olympian. The spelling is distinct from the Italian name Gioietta.
