Meaning and history
Nele is a German, Dutch, and Flemish feminine name with more than one source. It can be a short form of Cornelia, an ancient Roman name of uncertain meaning, or of Helena, whose Greek etymology is also debated. The intended origin therefore depends on the bearer. Nele is now widely used independently in northern Europe. Notable bearers include German novelist Nele Neuhaus and Belgian professional squash player Nele Gilis.
