Jeana is an English feminine elaboration of Jean. Jean is the medieval English feminine form of John and ultimately derives from Hebrew Yehochanan, meaning “Yahweh is gracious.” In some families Jeana may instead be understood as a variant of Gina, so personal usage can affect its source. The name’s clearest established tradition remains the Jean and Jane family. A notable bearer is American aviator Jeana Yeager, who co-piloted the first nonstop unrefuelled flight around the world.
